Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is composed of 98% air and 2% polystyrene. The ultralight yet strong material is a suitable alternative to metal components. EPS is mostly used as a means of protection, for cushioning items and as an insulation material. The energy absorbing characteristics of EPS make it an asset in the automotive industry. Its lightness is a great benefit.
EPS is used for manufacturing:
- steering columns
- seats
- bumpers
- car bodywork
Beyond its outstanding thermal insulation properties, the high compression resistance, the tensile and flexural strength, the structure of EPS also provides minimal water absorption. As a suitable material for protecting, storing and moving items, it is used widely in packaging.
EPS products are both reasonably priced and environmentally friendly as they do not contain any CFC´s and HCFC´s materials.
